Let's learn from Mary during the hustle and bustle this Christmas season

Where shall I start? Let's go back a year so you can understand me better. My husband and I have been remodeling our house for 1,000 years (almost 2 actually) and we're still forever away from finishing, at least that's how we sometimes feel. That is the reality of living in an old house and deciding to fix it yourself without any construction experience (this is another topic for another time); The fact is that in November of last year I was completely sure that the house would be finished and ready to decorate this Christmas, but the reality is different. Although we are very close to finishing, I could not help feeling disappointed when I accepted that it would not be different; so I decided to take the Grinch attitude (strange green creature that doesn't celebrate Christmas) and with this little introduction let's look at the first life lesson with Maria.

Accept God's will with joy.

In chapter 1 of Luke, we see the story of how the angel appears to Mary on the eve of her wedding. We can imagine the illusion that perhaps she felt about starting her new life as a married woman, but now she receives the news that she will give birth to a son who will be great, called the Son of the Most High. Inevitably Mary has her doubts, but with a humble heart, she responds in verse 38: Behold the servant of the Lord, be done with me according to your word. How many times do things not go as planned? What is the attitude we take? Everything can change in the blink of an eye, let's learn to change our disappointment for gratitude. Later, when Mary visits her cousin Elisabet and understands the greatness of the miracle that God is working in her life, we see her song of praise in verses 46-47: My soul magnifies the Lord; and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

Make sure there is room for Jesus in your life this Christmas.

Luke 2:7. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Let's take this verse backwards and in parts (the good thing this is not a Theology class :P), going back to my Grinch attitude, it turns out that when I realized that Christmas would not be as I had planned, I told my friends children:! this year there will be no gifts! the only thing I'm going to do for you this year is fix up your rooms, you already have a lot of toys and we need to organize and buy bunk beds to make more space (apparently people in the early 1900s understood the concept of minimalism very well and built their houses without closets, only with space for the essentials). To my surprise, my children did not complain and they have really helped me organize their bedrooms, which obviously made my conscience bother me and I started buying some gifts. This morning we started to move furniture and beds to install the new bunk beds, so I started to clean the room: guests, study, school room and storage room all in one, or multipurpose room as you prefer to call it; The fact is that I started cleaning and cleaning for hours and hours and to my surprise I found myself confronted with my own disaster: unfinished crafts, failed businesses, books that I intended to read and never did, more crafts that I had the intention of learning. , school things that we haven't started due to lack of time, old diaries full of lists and plans, some everyday things and other projects that weren't done or that I haven't finished to date and the list goes on. The reason I'm writing this blog today specifically is because in the midst of all the work I once again feel frustrated and tired; the packages of new things begin to arrive and I still haven't finished cleaning and the same thought comes to my mind, why so much hustle for Christmas, besides we are going on vacation there is no point in decorating and buying gifts. In the middle of all the papers I find a list of things to do in the kitchen from 2016, before the kitchen had remodeling plans and one of the tasks was to organize the bottle cabinet, which to this day I don't even remember where I put the bottles. nipples, which reminds me that my children are growing rapidly. The kitchen is already remodeled and everything has changed, but at that moment this verse came to mind about how Maria takes the best she had at that time, all her strength and love to protect that baby who came into this world for all of us. Imagine how difficult that trip and that night must have been. Growing up in the desert and now living in what looks to me like the North Pole in winter, I can tell you firsthand how much fun it is to go on a long trip about to have a baby up the mountain in an ice storm ( pure adrenaline), a little while later there is nothing that gives you more peace than seeing that baby sleeping wrapped in his blanket. Once again let us learn from Mary and take the circumstances that are in our hands and make them a blessing for those who are under our roof this Christmas, let us imagine that we can cover them with a blanket and give them that peace and shelter they need. So don't worry if there was no money for all the gifts you planned, or you didn't have time to decorate, maybe dinner will burn, no matter what, make this Christmas a special day; remember that we celebrate the birth of the prince of peace, it does not matter if you are in a manger or in a mansion let the peace of Jesus cover you.

Keep all these things in your heart.

At the end of chapter 2, we see that Jesus has already grown up and year after year they make their trip to Jerusalem to celebrate Easter. Mary gets upset with Jesus because he doesn't come back with them and she thinks he got lost. I must confess that for a long time I did not understand this passage because it seemed to me that it insinuated that Jesus, who never committed sin, disobeyed his parents; but now I can read it clearly, and I can understand that it was my own mind that made me fall into error. If you read it clearly, nowhere does it say and "Maria said: tomorrow we leave at 8:00 sharp and whoever doesn't stay here." What it actually says is the following: When they returned, after the party was over, the baby Jesus was left without Joseph and his mother knowing, and thinking that he was among the company, they walked for a day. In other words, they forgot. By paying attention to other matters they lost sight of Jesus and lost him. When they find him, Maria says to him: Why have you done us like this? Your father and I have searched for you with anguish. Pay close attention to Jesus' response in case you feel that God has neglected or abandoned you this Christmas; Then he said to them: Why are you looking for me? Didn't you know that I need to be in my Father's business? Then he tells us that they did not understand the words that he spoke to them and that Mary kept all these things in her heart. Remember that Jesus is always in the Father's business, that is, always taking care of us, we are the ones who lose sight of him, do not forget that he is the true purpose of Christmas.

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us, and the principality over his man; and his name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
